The Graduate Program
Applying to Our Program

Dear Prospective Student,

Thank you for your interest in the Department of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara. We are pleased you are considering us for your gradaute studies.

The graduate program in English offers a balanced emphasis on scholarship, criticism, and theory. It is especially strong in Medieval, Renaissance, and eighteenth-century studies; in modern and American literature; in literary theory, cultural criticism, culture of information, interdisciplinary studies; and in gender studies and minority literatures. The program is large enough to field a full range of graduate seminars, but small enough to provide a sense of community and a high level of faculty-student engagement

Applications are accepted for fall quarter admission only each year, and all materials, including Graduate Record Exams (GRE) scores and official transcripts, must be received by December 15.

You can find the electronic application for graduate study at UCSB at the Graduate Division e-app site. When using the e-app, all supporting application materials (Statement of Purpose, Personal Achievements/Contributions, CV, and Writing Sample) should be uploaded as part of the online application. The Foreign Language form may also be uploaded as a word document as part of the online application. The Graduate Division link is http://www.graddiv.ucsb.edu/eapp.Index.aspx

Finally, you can find all the information you need about the program and applying on this website. Please feel free to contact me at gradadvisor@english.ucsb.edu with further questions.

Sincerely,

Mary Rae Staton
