Visitor Attractions

The Botanical Gardens -
For $8 (adult admission) you can take a stroll through this 65-acre park in a canyon filled with native plants, creeks, and shady spots to sit and think. They've also got a great gift shop with good books on gardening and lots of hand- crafted items. Daily guided tours start at 2pm; tours on the weekends are held at 11am and 2pm. Farmers' Markets -
Tuesday early evenings on the 500 and 600 blocks of State Street; and Saturday mornings in the parking lot at Cota and Santa Barbara. Sunday mornings 10am-3pm at the Calle Real shopping center in Goleta (in front of the movie theatre and Borders).

Hiking -
The Santa Barbara area is rife with hiking trails and outdoor activities.

Santa Barbara Mission -
The Queen of the California missions, this gorgeous mission still functions as a church today. The gardens, architecture, history There are daily self-guided tours 9am-5pm ($5 per person), and docent tours available by appointment.

Santa Barbara Zoo -
From giraffes to lorikeets to penguins, the more than 500 animals found at the zoological gardens are sure to delight. Adult admission is $11. Zoo open daily except Christmas, 10am-5pm. [Santa Barbara Zoo website]

The Vedanta Temple -
Serene place to meditate with lovely gardens. In the Montecito Hills, at 927 Ladera Lane, Santa Barbara, CA 93108.

The Waterfront -
The Santa Barbara waterfront is home to restaurants, shops, the zoo, long stretches of beaches, the Ty Warner Sea Center, and Stearns Wharf. Take the 101 and get off at either Cabrillo or Garden.

Seasonal Attractions


Santa Barbara International Film Festival -
The SBIFF shows dozens of films ranging from documentaries to independent films to large commercial productions. Panels and tribute events occur throughout the week of screenings also. Held typically in January.

Old Spanish Days Fiesta -
Commenced over 75 years ago, this annual event serves to commemorate and educate the local community of Santa Barbara's rich ethnic and culture histories. Spanish, Mexican, early American settlers, and American Indian customs, traditions, and history are celebrated through the Fiesta Parade, the Children's Parade, food tastings, lectures, music, dancing, and more. Held typically in August.

Summer Solstice Parade -
This electic, dazzling celebration began in 1974 and continues today as a large, popular street carnival in downtown Santa Barbara. Visit the non-profit's website for more details. Held in June.
