Lit and Mind Reading Group

Date:

Monday, May 22, 2017

Time:

5:30 pm

Location:

Sankey Room

Please join us on Monday May 22nd at 5:30 in the Sankey room for our next reading group.  We have invited the English Department's Lead TAs to help orient our conversation around our classroom practice.

We have chosen to read Chapter 3 of Paulo Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed (1970) and Gwendolyn Brook's poem "A Bronzeville Mother Loiters In Mississippi. Meanwhile, A Mississippi Mother Burns Bacon" (1960).

We hope that Freire's chapter will help to continue our conversation about intersubjectivity and pedagogy.  Brook's poem, which deals with the murder of Emmet Till, raises both the stakes and challenges of good teaching.
