Course Requirements and Policy:

You are responsible for all assigned readings on the syllabus whether or not they are discussed in lecture or section. (However, you are not responsible for slides shown in lecture.) Passing the course requires all of the following:

  • Regular attendance at lectures and sections. Your course grade will go down incrementally beginning with your third absence from section (and can continue downwards for this reason to the point of failing).

  • Participation in section discussions (see GRADING POLICY).

  • Two papers, each 2-3 pp.; due November 1 and December 1 (hand in to your T.A. at the beginning of the lecture period or the paper will be considered late, and stay for the lecture; attendance will be taken). Paper topics will be distributed in advance.
  • Two tests: October 20th and November 8th
  • Final exam: Wednesday, December 7, 8:00-11:00 am. Students in the sections of Jim Hodge and Mac Oliver will take the exam in lecture auditorium. Students of Alex McKee and Pav Aulakh will take the exam in Broida 1610. The final is a cumulative exam covering all the materials of the course (excluding slides presented in lectures).
