When you complete the Electronic
Application to the Graduate Program in English, University
of California, Santa Barbara, please upload all supporting materials (Statement of Purpose, Personal Achievements/Contributions, CV, Writing Sample)

Submission Form that is automatically generated once you
complete and submit your online application. If you are paying by Check/Money Order, this form must be
printed, signed, dated, and mailed separately to the Graduate

Supporting
Materials and Test Results
1. Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation. May be submitted online or separately with required coversheets. Coversheets
are printable from the electronic application. Check your application regularly to monitor that your letters of recommendation have been submitted online.
2. Personal Statements and Resumé
The following materials: (1) statement of purpose, (2) personal achievements/contributions, and (3) CV/ resumé. These materials should be uploaded electronically on or before the application deadline of December 15.
3. GRE Scores
G.R.E. General Test scores (Verbal, Quantitative, Writing)
and the Subject Test in Literature scores. Results must be
received at UCSB by the December 15 deadline in order to be
considered for top campus fellowships. Contact the Educational
Testing Service to learn more about their test schedules
and telephone score reporting service. For Department of English

4. Transcripts
Two official transcripts from each institution attended since
high school, in sealed envelopes (can be mailed directly from
institution or enclosed with your other materials).
5. Foreign Language Form
Foreign language form may be uploaded as a word document as part of the online application process.
6. Writing Sample
A paper (literary or cultural criticism) written in an upper-division
or graduate literature class. Suggested length: 10 pages.
[7. Teaching Recommendation]
For those applicants with teaching experience, it is suggested
that you submit an additional letter(s) of recommendation
on your teaching experience.
