ENGL 165HS 2011 occurs in concert with the programming of the Department of English Hemispheric South/s Research Initiative. We will investigate theories of Hemispheric Studies and the Global South to understand how transnational perspectives influence and change scholarship and knowledge. This unconventional, seminar-style class is interdisciplinary and far-reaching. Students will encounter a variety of perspectives, geographies, and fields including literature, policy, religion, cultural studies, and more in thinking about race, culture, national identity, and power. The course will support and study the "Reimagining the Hemispheric South" conference taking place in January, 2011.
