A Xicana Indigena point of view provides the cultural and philosophical lens through which the genre of poetry is explored. The lecture course is designed to encourage students to recuperate both personal and ancestral memory, in the effort to uncover home-grown and innovative sites of language-making and social consciousness. The class will feature an engaging list of visiting poets and artists. Students will maintain a “scribe’s notebook” as laboratory practice and submit an “Amoxtli” (a small poetry manuscript with a critical introduction) by quarter’s end.
