This lecture course will be a mixture of three novels, short fiction, and two films.  Highlights include Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, James Joyce, from Dubliners, Virginia Woolf’s “The Mark on the Wall” and “Lady in the Looking Glass,” and stories Kafka, Beckett, Carter, and Ishiguro.  The central idea is to trace an important arc in modernist literature, culture and film.
