How does race shape the meaning of representation and the concept of writing? How does race inform our understanding of literary aesthetics and traditions? What is the relationship between race, authorship, and universality? This graduate seminar introduces students to key problematics in the analysis of race, writing, and representation. We will work within and across disciplines in order to address issues related to race, gender, and subjectivity, definitions of “the human,” and the formations of national identity.
