The English Department grieves for those who lost their lives in the Isla Vista shooting Friday, May 23, 2014. As teachers, we think, plan and dream futures for and with our students. This loss cuts into the very heart of our collective enterprise. The department held its own memorial at the CRC on Tuesday, May 27, before attending the university memorial at Harder Stadium. We continue to mourn and celebrate the lives of those we lost. And we hope to make our classrooms spaces for reflection upon and action against a culture of social violence.
