What do habit-tracking apps, your favorite pop song, or those “Day-in-the-Life” Instagram videos have to do with literary study? How might lending attention to quotidian action highlight the ways in which our daily routines simultaneously produce and respond to literature? What can reading poetry, prose, fiction, and nonfiction teach us about the historical, cultural, relational, and personal contexts in which we situate our own daily routines? In this six-week course, we will explore these questions through the core concepts of literary study, including the analytic methods, definitions of genre, form, figures of speech, composition, and research.
