This course looks at writing by women published between 1650 and 1780. We’ll read and talk about a range of genres: poems, novels, scandal memoirs, a few essays. A guiding question: when did the idea of ‘women’s writing’ emerge, and how was it defined — and is the category still relevant for how we write and publish today?
