What is creativity? From where do bursts of genius come? Can one train oneself to be creative? Is the “creative personality” depressed, akin to madness, ahead of its time? Is the internet stupifying our youth? Such questions are at the core of our readings and investigations into imagination and creativity. One major topic is how advances in neuroscience affect psychological, psychoanalytic, and literary theories of creativity. Each unit is paired with a literary or artistic text that orients our discussion and allows us to sharpen our understanding of the transformative nature of art.
