Each graduate student must enroll each quarter in a minimum of 8.0 units, with a maximum of 12.0 units (without submitting a petition). The enrollment process happens online (via GOLD), and includes registration for courses, payment of fees and other outstanding financial obligations. Enrollment must be completed according to registration guidelines and pass times maintained by the Office of the Registrar. Late registration will incur a fee. If a student wishes to enroll in a course outside the English department, they may be obliged to contact the instructor directly to ask for an enrollment “Add Code.” The Faculty Graduate Advisor may assist students with navigating this process.

After enrollment, students may adjust class schedules by adding/dropping classes or changing grading options. These changes are made through GOLD. During the first week of classes, students are allowed to adjust their schedule without paying a fee.  After this week, $3 is charged for each change. At an instructor’s discretion, a student may also be allowed to audit a course, though this will not count toward either enrollment minimums or coursework area requirements.
