To survey how a few writers and visual artists have re-imagined relations among human and other-than-human beings, we’ll read novels set in Santa Barbara, Bhopal, future Bangkok, and the planet Athshe. Their settings — from laboratories and museums to factories and labor camps to seedbanks and gardens — will allow us to track some historical shifts in the field of environmental ethics.
