Campus Learning Assistance Service

Students seeking individual assistance with any writing assignment or project can sign up in advance for an appointment in the Writing Lab, 3rd floor of the Student Resource Building, or use the Writing Drop-in Lab, on a first-come, first served basis. Tutors in the Writing Lab assist students at any stage in the writing process–from analyzing the assignment to revising for clarity and conciseness. However, CLAS writing tutors do not proofread or edit papers.

Course-specific workshops can be arranged by instructors to help students develop the skills they need to master the requirements of specific courses.

For more information, go to Campus Learning Assistance Services or call (805) 893-3269.

Student Services

The Disabled Students Program provides adaptive computing and equipment, sign language interpreters, note takers, and test proctors, among other services, for students who seek their services. Visit the Disabled Students Program or call (805) 893-2668 for more information.

UCSB maintains a comprehensive list of Basic Needs Resources (including housing, food, technology, and academic resources) available for students

For students dealing with crisis of any sort in an academic setting, it can be hard to determine where to turn to get help.  One place to gain insight into is the Career and Counseling Center, which also has a website addressing how to deal with stressful issues: Responding to Distressed Students.

Students (and instructors) can also call the Office of the Ombuds at (805) 893-3285 for 100% confidential advising, counseling, and assistance with conflict resolution.

If a student cannot attend classes or complete coursework due to a crisis, it is the student’s (or their family’s) responsibility to contact Office of Student Life at (805) 893-4569. More information can be found at Office of Student Life.
